Physical vs. Virtual Connection. What we learned.

All the participants are eager to see each other in person again but also appreciate the flexibility online offerings can provide in the future.

In October, the “Building Our Future Care & Communication Subcommittee” hosted the first Connection Session. We were so thankful for the generosity and love shared by the participants through their personal stories and perspectives. We learned a lot about our community through small group conversations about physical and virtual connections. Today, we would like to share with all of you several of the key takeaways.

First, we discussed the topic of connecting in person and gained the following insights.

  1. The top 3 ways the participants made their first personal connection to someone at UOTB were in a class or SpiritGroup, through participating in sacred service, or by engaging in conversations in the bookstore.

    2. The top 3 reasons our community chooses to stay connected to UOTB is for the music ministry, the spiritual messages and values shared, and the community of people.

    3. The top 3 events considered to be the most fun are the SpiritGroups, music events like concerts, and community events like the Love Gala, food and backpack drives, and Feeding People in Transition.

In addition, we learned a lot about the participants’ recent experiences with connecting virtually.

    1. Many participants have been able to stay connected with the UOTB community by participating in online services, meetings, and other events.

    2. All the participants are eager to see each other in person again but also appreciate the flexibility online offerings can provide in the future.

    3. Many participants also expressed interest in engaging in fun and unique gatherings both online and in-person as a way to get to know each other better.

Overall, the Connection Session was a great way to get to know each other better as a community so that we can better serve you now and in the future. Be sure to look out for our announcement next month for the topic of the next Connection Session scheduled for January 2021.
